It doesn’t take much effort to get involved in community service and it can be one of the most worthwhile things you can do in your life. The first thing to do is pick something that you care about, or want to see improve, and volunteer to do community service. Think about all the different things you would love to help out with.

Talk to someone in the area in which you want to get involved in. There are many different areas such as volunteering at a hospital, at your church, at a school, or at an animal shelter. These are just a few of the places that love to take volunteers. Community service doesn’t have to be hard work. Sometimes, such as in a hospital, people just need someone to talk to or read to them. Not only are you helping them, but you are also becoming a better person. Helping with small children and other people who cannot help themselves can be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life.

Remember to have fun and have a positive attitude while serving your community. Also try to get involved in places that often do community service events, such as a zoo, a museum, or a women’s league. Getting involved is also a great way to meet new people who share the same interests as you.

Try to get your friends, family, and coworkers to help you out as well. The more people you can get to help, the more rewarding your experience will be. Getting involved in community service is hard work, but the rewards at the end are well worth the effort.

Community Fundraising Part 3: Finding Volunteers

After you have decided on your fundraising goals and your fundraising type that you want to do, the net thing that you want to do is to find volunteers that you are going to use for your fundraising effort.  Here are some of the things that you can do in order to find the volunteers that you are going to need for your fundraiser.

  • Ask for a list of people that have volunteered in the past for fundraisers or who are currently serving on other committees.
  • Let the volunteers figure out the interests that they have and delegate the jobs accordingly. For example, if someone wants to write letters don’t assign them to do some baking.
  • Ask each of the recruits for people who are friends and family and might be interested in supporting the efforts of the fundraiser either through helping out or giving donations.
  • Be enthusiastic so that your team is motivated to be enthusiastic.
  • Motivate your team through prizes. For the larger fundraisers, you can reward the team that has contributed the most. For example, if you have more than one committee you can given a larger prize for the teams and smaller prizes for the efforts that individuals give.
  • Get those who benefit from the fundraiser involved. For example, if the fundraiser is for the marching band the members of the marching band need to be active participants.

When it’s a worthy cause, a lot of people should be willing to help in the fundraising effort. Sometimes it’s easy to find volunteers for a fundraiser and sometimes it’s difficult. But when you use the tips that are listed above to find your volunteers, you should not have that much trouble finding people who are ready and able to give of their time to help the cause.

Daytime Volunteers

Rumor has it that nonprofit organizations are struggling to find volunteers that able to help during traditional business hours. It may seem as if it is more difficult to find volunteers for daytime activities because more women are going into the workforce and less are staying at home, but nonprofit organizations are finding volunteer recruitments by thinking outside of the box.

Many people in the workforce do not keep regular business hours, so find volunteers during business hours is becoming easier. With the work from home craze in full swing, it is easy to find volunteers who have the flexibility to volunteer at all hours of the day. People who work from home can change their schedule as they please to volunteer for nonprofit organizations. The organizations that need more daytime volunteers just need to look for individuals who work at home in the right place to hang a recruitment flyer. Coffee shops and Internet cafes are a good place to start because most people who work at home will get out of the house at least once a week to work.

Although there are still millions of people who work regular jobs that does not mean they keep regular business hours. Many people work during the weekend and in the evening. Many businesses like gas stations, hospitals, and fast food establishments are open 24-hours a day, which mean some of their employees are available during the daytime hours to pitch in a helping hand. Individuals that work during the evening hours have their mornings and afternoons available.

Some businesses require their employees to work some weekends, which offers their employees a day off during the traditional business week. Many service-type businesses that are open for operation seven days a week are the same way, they give days off during the week, which gives their employees a chance to volunteer during daytime hours.
