How to Volunteer from Home

Volunteering for a non-profit organization can be a wonderful, enriching experience. However, in today’s busy world, it’s not always possible to pitch in. Fortunately, there are easy ways that you can help from home. Here are a few ways you can easily contribute to worthy organizations.

Work to end a human rights violation by sending an email. Amnesty International’s Online Action Center sends action alerts each week. The alert has a pre-written email message that details the issue and encourages state senators or government officials to take action. All you have to do is sign your name to the message.

Volunteer for Hugs and Hope, an organization that works with terminally ill children. The organization provides brief biographies of sick children, as well as their addresses. You can send a cheerful card to help brighten their day.

Send supplies to a family in need through Project Box, which connects sponsor volunteers with rural families who struggle to provide their children with basic necessities. Each month, you simply choose supplies to send; they can be anything from school supplies to shampoo, soap and deodorant. You can develop a relationship with the family through their monthly letters as well.

If you have a website or blog, add an Amber Alert ticker. The ticker will display pictures of children who have been reported missing. You’ll be helping get the message out about the child’s disappearance, and perhaps someone who visits your site can help the cause.

Utilize your talents to help a worthy organization. Offer to volunteer for a local charity by designing a website, proofreading brochures or writing promotional material for the organization.

P&G and Kroger are helping USO in “Honoring Our Heroes” Campaign

USO has been serving troops of U.S.A and their families since 70 years; new USO “Honoring our Heroes” campaign is a step forward to serve the purpose. Various programs and innovative services has been designed and delivered by USO to facilitate the American troops and their families, this time P&G and Kroger are jointly supporting the efforts of USO. Sloan Gibson USO president said, “We work every day through proven, cost-effective programs and services to relieve the tremendous burden our men and women in uniform shoulder on behalf of our nation. That is why partnerships with corporations like Kroger and P&G are so critical to our ongoing successes.”

New USO campaign by P&G and Kroger to honor our heroes is an ongoing campaign. P&G and Kroger have joined with USO as a matter of partnership for a good cause; Kroger has contributed with US$ 250,000. Kroger is the most prominent grocery retailer in U.S.A and its partnership with P&G for such a great cause is also expected to promote it and P&G. P&G Kroger Team leader Mindy Thompson said, “This year alone, more than 50,000 troops will be returning home from active duty – having done their part to help keep our country and its citizen’s safe. This program allows us to help consumers express their own gratitude to all the men and women who make such great sacrifices for our country.”

Benefits of Volunteering in the Community

There are many benefits to volunteering and community service. Volunteering in the community provides a multi-facet of benefits any of which is reason enough to take the big step. Find fulfillment in yourself by using volunteering to advance your career, find personal fulfillment and help the lives of others.

1.) Advancing your career- Volunteering to advance your career begins with high school. It is a requirement in many high schools to perform a set number of volunteering hours in order to graduate. Even if it isn’t required, you should be volunteering if you have plans to attend college. Admissions offices love to see a solid history of volunteer work on your resume.

2.) Advancing yourself personally- There is a great joy that comes with volunteering and helping others. While we customarily trades our services for money, it is great for the soul to give of yourself with no intentions other than helping others.

3.) Helping the less fortunate- There are plenty of people in your community who are less fortunate than yourself. By virtue of the fact that you are reading an article on the internet dictates you are better off than someone living on the street. You will receive general appreciation from people who needed your help and will remember your contribution for years to come.

Volunteering has a number of benefits but none of them make a difference if you don’t go out and start. Few people ever regret volunteering and it’s usually something a person will do time and time again once they start.

Getting Involved In Community Service

It doesn’t take much effort to get involved in community service and it can be one of the most worthwhile things you can do in your life. The first thing to do is pick something that you care about, or want to see improve, and volunteer to do community service. Think about all the different things you would love to help out with.

Talk to someone in the area in which you want to get involved in. There are many different areas such as volunteering at a hospital, at your church, at a school, or at an animal shelter. These are just a few of the places that love to take volunteers. Community service doesn’t have to be hard work. Sometimes, such as in a hospital, people just need someone to talk to or read to them. Not only are you helping them, but you are also becoming a better person. Helping with small children and other people who cannot help themselves can be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life.

Remember to have fun and have a positive attitude while serving your community. Also try to get involved in places that often do community service events, such as a zoo, a museum, or a women’s league. Getting involved is also a great way to meet new people who share the same interests as you.

Try to get your friends, family, and coworkers to help you out as well. The more people you can get to help, the more rewarding your experience will be. Getting involved in community service is hard work, but the rewards at the end are well worth the effort.

Top Non-Profit Careers

You may have always pictured yourself as someone who wanted to help others, not just in a volunteer capacity but as your life’s work. For you, working in any of the top non-profit careers may be the answer.

You may have found your love for a certain charity or cause by doing volunteer work. You want to continue to give of your time, especially now that you’re out of high school, but you know it’s important to get a college education. You can do both if you earn a degree online.

Attending an online college means you have more flexibility in planning your course and class schedules. You can go to class in the morning and do your volunteer work in the afternoon. Or, if you’re at your best in the morning, you can volunteer in the morning and earn a degree online in the afternoon and at night.

You have almost as many options of how to earn a degree online as you do the types of degrees you can earn. You can find the one that will provide the education which will allow you to pursue your goal of working in one of the top non-profit careers.  Because you can choose when to attend college, you can devote your spare time to your education.

When you explain to those at the organization at which you volunteer that you are going to earn a degree online, you may be surprised at the encouragement you receive. You may find that they are more than willing to work around your class or course schedule.

Avoiding Jail With Community Service

For misdemeanor offenses, those who commit crimes are sometimes sentenced to community service instead of going to jail. Jails are overcrowded as it is and most agree there is no sense in filling the walls with those who commit minor offenses. Still, people who are found guilty of crimes must be punished. Often time these punishments will include some combination of probation, fines, or community service. A judge must examine the case and decide how likely the offender is to be habitual, and hat the best punishment is to suit the crime. Some examples of the punishments include:

1.) Hours of unpaid work- The amount of community service a person is sentenced to has a lot to do with how much trouble they have been in in the past. For example, a judge is likely to be far more lenient on a first time offender then someone they have repeatedly told to clean up their act.

2.) Training- If a judge sees an opportunity for an offender to obtain job skills in addition to helping the community, that is most likely the path his sentencing will take. On the site job training could be as simple as learning to fix cars and at the same time, repairing cars of people in the community who can really use the help.

3.) Cleaning up: Whether it is the city park or the neighboring area of the local high school, it is likely there is litter to be picked up. A popular form of community service by criminals is to help remove trash from the area in order to preserve the integrity of the neighborhood.

Obey the judges sentence and be sure to learn from the experience.

Benefits of Volunteering in Your Community

Most people want to be involved in volunteering but need a push to get going. The majority of us do mandatory volunteering at one time or another but as we enter adulthood, anything that isn’t paying a competitive wage tends to end up on the back burner. There are many benefits to volunteering people never even consider. While the focus tends to be on the job you will do and who will benefit, it doesn’t hurt to look at the ways it will help you as well. For instance, you can get your focus off of yourself.

Most of us lead busy lives and are so focused on our own issues that we don’t take time to consider those who are in a worse position than we are. Indeed. volunteering allows you to gain perspective into people who don’t have a place to live or who have substance addictions that negatively affect their lives. The perspective one gains by volunteering cannot be learned in  a book or classroom, but the face to face interactions will serve as a far more valuable learning tool.

Volunteering also allows you to develop leadership skills on your own time. Potential employers want to know that you have been tested and the right volunteering allows you to do just that. Take a challenging assignment and see it through regardless of what you have to do to achieve the goal. You will come out on the other side a wiser person.

Regardless of your reason for volunteering, there’s no denying the multi-faceted benefits. Personal growth and resume boosting are just two reasons to get out and volunteer.

When it comes to making a donation to charity, everyone has their own reason for donating and the reasons can range from trying to get rid of an item to trying to help someone. Here are a few of the more popular reasons why people make charitable donations to specific charity organizations.

The Desire to Make a Difference in the World

Many people make charitable donations in an effort to make a difference in the world. Charitable donations are a great way to help individuals who are less fortunate or in need. By simply donating clothing, food or other items that you might have an excess of you are allowing someone who does not have access to these items the chance to benefit from them. When these individuals can make use of these items, you’re making a difference in their world.

Supporting a Specific Cause

The majority of charitable organizations are created to help with a specific cause, and in an effort to help support the organization you can give them food and other items that can bring in money so they can do their work. An example of this is the Kars for Kids charity that takes donations and uses them to help children receive an education. People who think education is an important part of any child’s life would choose to support this organization.

The Chance to Get Rid of Excessive Items

Occasionally, charitable donations are made because an individual wants to get rid of excessive items that they might have around the house. Instead of throwing the items away people will donate them to a charity or organization hoping that individuals who are less fortunate can benefit. While this might be viewed as a bit selfish, donations of this nature can still help a charitable organization take care of the people who depend on it.

Have More Family Time As Volunteers

There are many benefits to volunteering but perhaps none better than a chance to unite the family. Parents today are busy with careers, personal life and each other. It is easy to let a distance grow between the parents and children. This does not need to be the case however. Volunteering as a family teaches valuable life lessons and the best part is you are learning them together. Here are a few reasons to volunteer as a family.

1.) Sense of community- Feeling disconnected from your community is normal but not necessary. There are many projects that would just love to have an entire family involved and working together such as building homes for disadvanged people in the community.

2.) Sense of humility- Given the ease of life with technologies of today, it’s easy to see how kids lose perspective. Volunteering in the community for now pay and helping people who are not as well off as themselves have children to learn that some people really struggle and that they should be thankful for what they have,

3.) You get to spent time together- Spending any time together as a family is great. However, spending time together in front of the television isn’t nearly as productive as spending time helping out in the community. The time spent together problem solving and helping will be a foundation to grow as a family unit.

There really is only positives to getting out in your community and volunteering. You will not regret the opportunity to grow together while also helping others.

Experience Foreign Nations With the Red Cross

One of the more exciting experiences in volunteering is the chance to go abroad. The Red Cross is an organization that offers this travel opportunity to Americans interested in traveling and helping others. Volunteering in your own community is a great way to help people in your area. It is also a fair way to satisfy volunteering requirements of your local high school. Some people however desire a lot more out of the volunteer experience. Here are just a few of the volunteering areas you could participate in by travelling abroad.

Teaching- There is no shortage of areas you could teach abroad, especially teaching English. This is an excellent opportunity for bilingual volunteers who want to experience another another culture and have the experience of working with foreign students. The benefits to the volunteer include not only the satisfaction that comes with teaching but you are bound to become more fluent in the native language of the country.

Sports- For th athletic volunteer, the chance to travel abroad can be a rewarding experience. Not only can you help underprivileged kids in other countries learn our games like baseball, basketball and football, but you can also experience there games and sports. It’s really a sobering experience to see that our sports are not played everywhere but that foreign cultures are just as enthusiastic about sports such as rugby and soccer in other countries.

The chance to volunteer abroad is likely not an opportunity that will always be around. For instance, once you settle down with a family or start a new career, it can be exceptionally hard to get away for long periods of time. If you’re thinking about volunteering, there is perhaps no better time than the present to find an opportunity abroad that’s right for you.
